A Full Circle,

God-Ordained, Moment

It all began in 2003, when Hal and Chris opened the doors of their orphanage — and their hearts — to three young siblings: Barbarah and her two brothers. What began as an act of compassion would become the start of an extraordinary journey that would span countries, careers, and generations.

Three years later, in 2006, the siblings found their forever home with a couple in New York. Their adoptive mother, Susan Narkewicz, was an attorney with a lifelong passion for helping others. Her work sending relief supplies to Haiti eventually led her to become Chair of the Board for HIS Home for Children — the very organization that had once cared for her daughter.

Barbarah thrived in her new environment. She graduated from Latham Christian Academy and was awarded the prestigious Gates Millennium Scholarship, an opportunity that opened doors she had once only dreamed of. She went on to earn a graduate degree in International Business and a Master’s in Education Policy — blending intellect, hard work, and an enduring desire to make a difference.

In time, Barbarah met Matias, a man whose upbringing as a missionary child instilled in him a deep compassion for others. He devoted his career to advocating for persecuted Christians around the world. Together, they discovered not only a shared faith but also a shared vision for living purposefully and creatively.

Today, Barbarah and Matias run a thriving destination wedding photography business, traveling the world to capture love stories in breathtaking places. But for all their travels, their favorite moments happen at home — in Maryland, where they’re raising three lively boys. Their days are filled with homeschooling lessons, backyard adventures, and DIY projects as they lovingly restore their 225-year-old home.

Theirs is a story about love, resilience, and the unexpected ways life can come full circle. From an orphanage in Haiti to a home filled with laughter in Maryland, Barbarah’s journey reminds us how small acts of kindness can ripple outward — shaping lives, families, and futures in ways no one could have imagined.

Their new role…

They understand the gravity of leading a ministry in a place as complex and often heartbreaking as Haiti. Violence, political unrest, and poverty have created enormous challenges for those who serve there. Yet for Barbarah and Matias, the work is deeply personal — it’s not just a mission, but a calling woven into the very fabric of their story. They know it won’t always be easy. There will be obstacles, heartbreak, and moments that test their faith. But they also know the power of love, compassion, and persistence — because they’ve lived it.

For them, carrying on the legacy of HIS Home for Children is both an honor and a responsibility. The same place that once sheltered and nurtured Barbarah is now the focus of their efforts to give back — to create opportunities for other children just like her, who are waiting for a safe place to call home. Their vision is not only to provide care, but to restore dignity, hope, and faith in a generation that has known so much loss.

In Barbarah’s own words:

“I am forever indebted to Hal and Chris’s ‘yes’ to the calling of God on their lives, because without them, my brothers and I wouldn’t be here — living this beautiful life that we’ve been blessed with. It’s our turn now to continue to bring hope to the children in Haiti.”

As Barbarah and Matias step into this new chapter, they do so with humble hearts — aware that the same love that once changed their lives now flows through them to others. Their journey has come full circle: from being rescued, to becoming rescuers; from receiving hope, to now sharing it with those who need it most.
